Coming Soon: Non-Chlorine Rinse for Poultry

The latest and widespread concerns about food safety, paired with the trend for less chemicals interfering with the food supply, has pushed researchers to find new solutions to preventing bacteria contamination. Recently scientists were able to perfect a spray using lauric acid and potassium hydroxide.

Lauric acid is found in coconut oil, and is inexpensive, and non-toxic. Potassium Hydroxide, while harmful in a pure dose, is a common base for cleaners, and far less toxic than chlorine.

Not only does this new cleansing method offer solutions for customers looking to purchase food that has crossed paths with harmful chemicals, it also has the potential to allow the US to end a trade dispute with the EU- who has outlawed chlorine sanitizers on food since 1997.
